An open letter to SONY regarding the PS3
Ok everybody, I pre-ordered a Wii. I will be buying it, but am now more likely to get an Xbox-360 than I am a PS3, I hate the Xbox-360. Dear Sony, I am sorry to say I will not be purchasing a PS3. I was looking to buy a new 'games console' but it appears you are pricing for the housing market rather than games market. The PS3 looks to cost more than double the cost of my PC. I thought games consoles were a 'toy'? Something to have fun on, not a major household investment on par with buying a new BMW. I will however be buying a Nintendo Wii. I already have a gamecube, I bought this at least three years after the I bought my PS2 because there was nothing to play on the Playstation. No fun to be had. There wasnt a single game I wanted to play, let alone pay £40 and up for. I do however play MarioKart Double Dash continualy because its fun. On the Nintendo. The one PS2 game I did spend £45 on was reduced to £9.99 in the bargain bin 3 months later because it wasnt actualy that good, leaving me more than a little upset. I havent even bothered buying any more from the £9.99 bin, or even plugging the PS2 in for a year now. I have no need to play the 43rd version of some stupid football (American or other) game that is no better than the last 1, 2, 3 or 4 versions you released. I was happy with Tekken by Tekken 2, none of the others have actualy made the game any more fun in any way. Just more expensive, and sometimes worse (Tekken TAG anyone?) Playstation games have become the console equivelent of a long running American TV series. All the good stuff was done long ago, all the ideas are gone and the dead horse was beaten beyond recognition long ago. The only difference is that we are expected to pay £45 per episode for repeats on the PS2. I do not see the PS3 being any more fun, because the same people are writing the same games for it again. Oh, but because of the development costs there are going to be fewer titles, and less originality. Im sorry you broke your company, but you cannot expect to recover your entire business model on the sale of one games console. You seem to have put all your eggs into one very large, very expensive basket that nobody wants or can afford. That doesnt matter though, because I live in Europe and you are not even going to let us buy it for another year or so. It was impossible for Microsoft to win the console war, they had no hope. The only way the Xbox and Xbox 360 could survive was if Sony deliberately self destructed and killed their own console. Nobody expected you to DO it. Yours regretfully, One of many disapointed customers. | |||||||||||||||
